Sell your Language in Limerick

24 January 2009

Bedford Row, orașul Limerick

Event Description

As part of the Excursions Performance FestivalAnia Bas facilitated a language fair, titled "Sell your language" on Bedford Row, in the centre of Limerick.

We had all kind of reactions, from "I speak English and I don't need any other language" to "What can you teach me in 5 min?"

But there were quite a few people willing to try, for all kind of reasons: time to spend before meeting someone, impressing the house mate's Romanian boyfriend, and so on. One interesting aspect was that nobody ever thought of making a trip to Romania and they knew no Romanian people in Ireland. We showed and shared a few pictures of the Voronet monastery and spoke about the Martisor tradition.

It was an interesting experience, although in the last part of the afternoon it was freezing cold.

7:15 Romanian Poems by Mihai Eminescu (1850-1889)
A reading of the acclaimed poem  “The Legend of the Evening Star” (Luceafarul) in both English and Romanian.

"While Eminescu is often described as the essence of the Romanian soul, modern literary language in Romania is also much indebted to him. His work encompassed every genre of poetry (love, philosophical, cosmological, mythological, historical, socio-satiric, etc.) as well as prose and journalism.
Eminescu is considered Europe's last great romantic not in the least because he gave voice of such unmistakable music to the sadness of love. His legacy, however, transcends the confines of Romanticism, the literary and philosophical Western traditions, the far east influences and even the obvious imprint of the Romanian folklore. Blessed with the touch of genius, his synthesis is a personal world of meaning about the life of man and of the cosmos in archetypal images of universal worth." www.luceafarul.com

Romanian Rhapsody

11th of April 2019 from 6:30PM

Saint Mary's Cathedral, Bridge Street, Limerick, Ireland V94 E068A

Event Description

Event overview

A concert of good quality music, tasty wine and wonderful people, hosted in a great location as Saint Mary's Cathedral, is what any person needs from time to time, anyone who wants to enjoy life, loves meeting new people and exploring new cultures. The " Romanian Rhapsody" concert was a mix of traditional, classical and ritual music accompanied by live visuals just perfect for the whole family, where everyone, be it children, teens, parents and grandparents will be filled with positive energy from the music, excellent Romanian wine and traditional snacks, completed by the presence of wonderful people of the Limerick community.

The concert organised by the Romanian Embassy in Dublin with the support of the Romanian community from Limerick was a great opportunity for the whole  local community to explore Romanian culture through music, live visuals, food and wine tastings. The music and live visuals  were  the "food" for the souls  of the participants. It was a unique experience for the Limerick community as this type of events are not very often organised and the fact that the tickets were sold out with a few days before the event proved the uniqueness of the  event that we, as a community hope to see more of them.

I have no doubt that the entire audience had a great evening. The end of the concert was followed by a short photo session with the artists, our guests and organisers, including HE Mrs. Manuela Breazu, Ambassador of Romania.

I recommend to everyone a concert of this kind, which guarantees great moments in the present and for the past, when transformed into memories.
